Summer Sleeping is a Breeze®

— by Tempur-Pedic on Aug 1, 2025

As summer heat reaches an oppressive peak, many are left sweltering instead of sleeping. Several brands offer products designed to combat the issue, and if you have a Breeze® mattress, you’re better off than most. But are there ways to maximize the cooling power of your bed? Unsurprisingly, the answer is a resounding yes!

A couple making the bed

The layers between you and your mattress play a crucial role in the effectiveness of its cooling capacities. Special fibers in your bed’s zip-on cover help dissipate body heat, but layers on top (such as your mattress protector and sheets) trap the heat instead of allowing the fibers to perform. You don’t want your bedding to combat the features in your mattress; let them work in tandem instead! A cooling mattress protector helps maximize the amount of heat dispersion via cooling fibers that draw warmth away from you while you sleep. Breathable sheets are another key component in regulating temperature. A higher thread count is often considered more luxurious, but it can lessen airflow through the fabric. Instead, opt for thin bedding made with Tencel™ and natural fibers for a chillier experience.

Environmental factors also play a significant role in maintaining cool sleep. Sleeping with a fan in the room is common for many people; however, a dehumidifier provides a boost. Your body uses sweat to cool off. As it evaporates, it pulls heat from your body and regulates your temperature. A humid room, even one with a fan, prevents sweat from evaporating and can hinder the moisture-wicking capabilities of your cover.  Using a dehumidifier ensures your room is primed for optimal cooling. Another environmental aspect to consider is your thermostat. Of course, a colder room will help if you’re sleeping hot, but there’s an additional advantage many don’t consider. TEMPUR-Material™ is temperature-sensitive and will become firmer as the degrees drop. Firm beds have a slight cooling advantage since you sink into the mattress less, exposing more surface area to the air. By lowering your thermostat, you’ll not only enjoy a cooler room, but your mattress will work more effectively, too.

Waking up sweaty is no way to start the day. Our mattresses have features designed to curb the issue, and by taking extra measures, you can maximize cooling for a refreshing night’s sleep and an invigorating morning.
