It’s hard to imagine, but behind our mattresses, pillows and other sleep products, there’s some serious technology. Originally developed by NASA to cushion astronauts during space flight, TEMPUR material is at the core of virtually all of our products. It was designed with unique properties that make it the perfect material for our mattresses, pillows and other sleep products.

Responsive to temperature and weight

TEMPUR material responds to changes in temperature and the weight of your body. The cells move and depress in response to the heat and weight of your body as it makes contact with the mattress or pillow. This allows the material to conform to your body, and helps support you in proper alignment. You relax more fully, and sleep better.

Open cell structure

TEMPUR material has a unique cellular structure made of millions of independently moveable micro-cells. These micro-cells breathe as you shift your weight—so they actually work to evenly distribute your body weight. In this way, they relieve pressure points (where the heaviest parts of your body are pressing down on the mattress).

Returns to original state

Because of the way the cells work, TEMPUR material is designed to return to its original state after every use. This means it will feel like new every time you sleep on it for years to come. It also makes it very durable—which is why we can warranty our products for longer periods of time than other mattresses and pillows.

Allergen and dust-mite resistance

TEMPUR material is resistant to allergens such as dust mites, mold, and mildew, and free of harmful VOCs (volatile organic compounds) such as formaldehyde and CFC (chlorofluorocarbon)—harsh chemicals that can trigger allergies and asthma.
