Soft = Hard and Uncomfortable

"My wife purchased a soft Traditional pillow for me after lots of hinting that I wanted one. Tempur-Pedic describes the pillow as great for back and side sleepers who like feather pillows. The pillow is very hard once you put on a pillow case and holds my head up way too high. I've tried it for three days and woke up with a sore neck each morning. My wife took me to buy a "real" feather pillow this morning. Very disappointed. No returns/exchanges allowed so be sure you like it before spending $100 on a pillow."

BEST PILLOW I'VE EVER OWNED

"I bought two x-soft traditional pillows and am very pleased. They definitely are much better than any other pillow I have ever owned. I sleep comfortably all night. I do wish it was available in a queen size. Also, it is too big for the sheet sets that I own and it is difficult stuffing it into a pillowcase. The dimensions of the pillows are not given on the website so finding pillowcases that fit is difficult; yes, I have taken my own measurements. The Tempur-Pedic linen sets are expensive so I am reluctant to invest in them not knowing if they would fit better or not. Bottomline, it is a great pillow, but the sizes available & the fit of the pillow to a pillowcase needs to be improved. "

X-Soft Traditional Pillow

"I am also one of those people who tried many pillows and was not happy. I would say I am an all sleeper, I start out on my back, turn left and right and occasionally do lay on my stomach. I purchased the Tempur-Traditional pillow in "Soft", I found it to be too firm, thick and heavy and not soft for me at all. I then purchased the same pillow but this time in X-Soft, I absolutely loved it. This pillow was slightly filled, but soft and not thick or heavy compared to the soft pillow. I agree with the other posts, the pillows could be renamed to soft, medium and firm, only because the Soft was very firm and heavy. I definitely recommend the Tempur-Traditional X soft pillow!"

Perfect for Me

"First I bought the Tempur-Comfort, which was too firm. Then I bought a Tempur-Cloud, which turned out to be too soft. Finally, I bought a Tempur-Traditional (medium), and like Goldilocks, it was just right. I never even notice this pillow, which is to say that it's perfect. I never have to fluff it up or mash it down. I no longer "fight" my pillow, nor do I wake up with soreness or stiffness in my neck or shoulders. I absolutely LOVE this pillow!!"

"The tempur-traditional pillow was a real godsend when I started having muscle spasms in my neck. I had tried a number of pillows prior to the tempur-traditional pillow, and none helped the situation. Then I tried the tempur-traditional and I have experienced real relief. My only suggestion is that Tempur-pedic rename the "feel" of the pillows from "extra-soft, soft, and medium" to "soft, medium, and firm," which I feel is a better characterization of the firmness of each one. I first got the "soft," as a few minutes' trial in the store was not really enough to determine which feel would be best, and my husband thought that the "extra soft" sounded like it would not provide enough support for my neck problems. Well, I took it home and tried it and found that it provided some relief, but I also quickly realized that I needed something not quite as firm. Realizing that I couldn't return the pillow once I had opened the package, I had no choice but to purchase the "extra soft" a few days later, and I must say that it has been simply amazing! I do feel that the "soft" tempur-traditional that I originally purchased is actually firm enough to be considered a "medium" feel, and I would imagine that what is now designated as "medium" should probably be considered to be "firm." Otherwise, it's a great pillow, allowing the user a really good night's sleep! "

"I LOVE LOVE my new Traditional Pillows in X-Soft. I'm a stomach sleeper so my pillow has to be able to flatten out a bit. But, it's also supportive if I lay on my back or side. They are amazing! "

Garbage.

"I bought two of these pillows with hopes of sleeping on a comfy, soft surface. But nope. I ordered these in extra soft after seeing the other reviews where someone was complaining about their chin touching their chest. The extra soft is like sleeping on a flat pancake. The only soft thing about them is that the pillow is obviously hollow...it's really just two pieces of foam placed in a fabric casing with an apparent gap between the foam. It's too bad I wasted $200 on these, and it's really too bad that Tempurpedic doesn't accept any returns. Of course."

Wish it came in a Queen & King size!

"I absolutely love this pillow! I am a side sleeper and when I first tried it I thought it may be too firm but within 5 minutes fell sound asleep, and it feels great to sleep on. I have a tempurpedic mattress w/a tempurpedic topper which I love, and now I love this pillow on it! I have a King size bed, and would have preferred to at least be able to order a Queen size but you did not give that option! Hopefully you will in the near future, and I will buy it not only for myself but my girls as well!! Love this pillow, not too hard, not too soft, just right!!"

"I originally got the standard size soft pillow because it was perfect when I tried it in the showroom. Unfortunately, after I crammed it into a standard pillow case here at home, it felt very hard and too high. The salesman let me exchange it for the x-soft and I didn't use a pillow case this time. It's perfect now, so I'm having extra wide standard cases made for it. The old 20x26 cases really don't fit any of today's over stuffed pillows. You'd think someone would figure this out and sell over sized pillow cases. They finally did this for the fitted sheets. Now it's time for the pillows. Meanwhile, my standard size x-soft is the bestest pillow in the world! "

"This pillow did not meet our expectations. For back sleepers is pushes you head so that your chin touches your chest. I got the x-soft so that this would not happen. My wife who is a side sleeper ordered a soft, she got up this morning saying she is going to JCP to look for another pillow. Bottom line for us these did not work and we are stuck with them. (I am sure this review will not get approved.)"

"I bought this pillow after first trying 5 other pillows that just didn't work for me. I tried down, I tried other memory foams, I tried fiber fill. Nothing worked for me. I needed a pillow that was supportive, but would still compress down. Being a back/stomach sleeper, I found most pillows were just too thick. I'd wake up every morning with a stiff neck. I needed a pillow that would flatten down enough that it wouldn't cause a crick in my neck, but that would still support my head. I found this pillow and bought it in the Extra Soft. It is amazing! No more sore neck and shoulders! It has the softness of down, but with more support. (I always found with down, that by morning my head was literally touching the bed, because all the down had shifted around my head.) you can't go wrong with this pillow. Plus you can purchase it in different levels of firmness. My only complaint is the high price, but it is worth it to get a restful nights sleep. The right pillow can make all the difference. I plan on purchasing a second Traditional Pillow in Extra Soft just so I can have a backup. I highly recommend this pillow! Do your tired head and neck a favor, Buy One!!!"

"I know I can't return these pillows but I would if I could. I took the advice of the consultant after much conversation and am greatly disappointed. I suffer from fibromyalgia and chronic pain and need a soft but supportive pillow. I should have never ordered soft as they are like mush and I need both pillows stacked in order to get any support. I do take responsibility for the extra soft as a choice but as a third pillow. I should have been guided to the firmer pillow. I also asked if any pillows came in a larger size and was told no which i later read is not true. I ordered a mattress at the same time that has not yet been delivered and am praying that it is not to soft. I will be buying firmer pillows to replace these. "

"My husband and I just bought the "medium" and "soft" versions of these pillows last weekend, and we absolutely love them! So much nicer than the knock-off memory foam that feels hard and less conforming. The cushion is extremely comfortable,yet supportive. I'm definitely not tossing and turning, and fluffing my pillow like I was before. I just wish they made them in a king size!"
