Good for side sleepers

"We have two Tempur-Pedic beds, and I sleep on the Tempur-Side pillow. This was my second pillow and overall I like it but have some complaints. The pillow is not ready to use out of the box. It is very hard and has a strong chemical smell. I had my 200 lb husband sit on it for a few days and then waited a couple weeks for the smell to dissipate. Then it works well for me since I am a side sleeper. It will eventually become too soft, lose support, and need to be replaced. Also, the zipper on the cover broke a couple of times, and I had to have it replaced. Despite all of this, I recommend the pillow."

A Very Bad Idea

"While I have numerous neck and back problems, I am generally a good sleeper. As my problems worsened I invested in the Side Pillow, and it was a big mistake. Even with a cervical collar on, I wake up frequently and have excruciating pain in the morning. My Orthopaedic surgeon (the chief at Hopkins) said to get rid of this pillow, calling it overpriced torture."

Do not waste your money

"I got this as a gift from my daughter for Christmas as I have some shoulder issues and she thought this might help me. It does help my shoulder pain but after one week of waking with intense back and neck pain I retired it. The "fat end," even with the indentation, "digs" into your neck and that was what was causing the neck and related back pain. The design is not correct as it elevates the base of you neck and then your head is actually lower than your shoulders. Not a good solution trust me. Tempurpedic, has had a long-term reputation of expensive products and while their beds have had some success this item was a huge mistake. Interesting how they will take back a bed that costs $6,000 but not the pillow! For $129.00 that is a lot of money for someone to pay for a "sack of cement" as one other reviewer aptly described it. Save your money on this beauty. If not, and you definitely want to buy one, do you know anyone that wants to buy a slightly used one? They should take them back and dispose of them if everyone is so happy with them. The amount that they would have to take back would be minimal if they are so good! I suspect that the reason they won’t is that there are too many people like me that understand that this remains the rip-off of the year! In short, do not buy it! "

My favorite pillow -- EVER!

"I purchased my first neck pillow 9 years ago...and it finally just gave out this year! I purchased another type of pillow for side sleepers and that did not work out at all -- my husband is trying it out. So, I ordered this pillow and immediately know why I used it for 9 years! LOVE IT...I have a problem neck from an accident and this supports my neck and head. I am a side sleeper but also sleep on my back and the pillow gives the perfect support in that position, too! I also take my wonderful pillow everywhere with me. Some people may be put off because if this pillow gets cold it gets hard but the warmth of your head will make it just right. Thanks, Tempur Pedic!"

Helps with neck problems

"The Tempur-Side pillow was in storage for about twelve years as I used to sleep on my stomach with a different pillow. In 2009 an MRI revealed that I had osteoarthritis in my spine, C5-6 and C6-7 vertebrae. Starting, way back in 2001, I would experience numbness in both pinkies, only when I slept. By 2009, the numbness encompassed both hands and I would frequently be wakened at night. My brain told me that if I can sleep with perfect spine alignment, the whole night, the numbness would go away as the nerves were being pinched by the outgrowth of calcium deposits on my vertebrae. I searched the Internet and found out that my osteoarthritis was caused by a lack of calcium so I started taking E-Zorb, which has helped to shrink the calcium deposits on my spine. Sleeping on my side requires me to use the side pillow, which works wonders. As an additional measure, I bought a cervical collar to wear when I go to bed. This, in addition to the Tempur-Side Pillow makes it almost 100% problem proof and I will get a good night's sleep. As things got better and better, I no longer needed the cervical collar. If I never changed my sleeping habits and listened to doctors who were "cut crazy," I never would have solved a simple problem with a change in my pillow and taking a supplement with highly absorbable calcium. My sleep is now in harmony with my body. Who could ask for anything better?"

For side sleepers

"I am a 100% side sleeper and this pillow has finally allowed me to sleep through the night without a sore shoulder or ear. Based on the reviews of others, it must be reiterated, this pillow is for side sleepers... not back sleepers, not stomach sleepers. However, for an always side sleeping person, this pillow, when combined with my memory foam mattress topper has given me great restfulness. I laid down yesterday just to "test" it... and I fell asleep for almost 4 hours. "

"It's so well put, all the points he described, both my husband and I have the same problem with our neck after sleeping with this pillow. I DO NOT recommend if you even rarely sleep or toss by ways of your stomach. Also, if you enjoy sleeping on your side with your arm under the pillow, this is not the pillow for you."

Not as good as used to be.

"I have been using side pillows for about 6 years. I always loved it. I can't sleep without it, so I always take my pillow when I travel even though it takes half of the space luggage. About a two months ago, I left my pillow at the hotel, so I ordered another one. I was surprised when I receive the new one. The quality of the pillow has changed. First of all, the cover used to be soft because it was made of 75% cotton and 25% polyester. But the last one I ordered had 100% polyester which is not as comfortable to the skin. Furthermore, it smelled some kind of chemicals and was giving me a terrible headache. Furthermore, the quality of foam was not the same as before. It was a lot softer and sink in more. I believe the company is cutting down the quality and amount of foam because of cost. Of course, I had no choice but return it. After using the side pillow for about 6 years, I KNOW what it is suppose to feel like. Since I have returned the pillow for refund, I have been searching online and found the "older model" (one that comes in the box not plastic bag) at Relax the Back website so I ordered one. When I received it, it was the new model. They didn't updated photo on their website, so I returned it back again. The pillow came through Tempurpedic warehouse not from Relax the Back. So I searched local furniture store and found the older model of standard "neck pillow". I totally hate it. It's very different than the "neck pillow" and it's not firm enough. I'm still searching for the right pillow. Definitely I won't order one before I try it first. "

"First off, I never write reviews, but after reading Franciscos above (which there I don't know him or have anything against him), I just couldn't help to tell my truth. And this is why reviews are sometimes misleading and why I don't like writing them. But This side pillow is absolutely genius. I sleep 75-90% of the time on my back and was worried about the side pillow for that reason, but Many times I can't fall asleep on my back, but on my side I can.. you get the picture. I cannot believe how comfortable this pillow is in both positions. I am buying a few more. and I hate spending money. $100's of dollars on this pillow is most definitely worth it for my wife and family. Wait till you see this pillow and the minute details and thought that were put into it. I wish more companies cared this much. And For the prices at $100 per pillow. I would spend it again. Ohh How I have tried pillows with water or gel for $75 and what a waste of time and money in comparison. So yes I am sold on foam and this is my favorite pillow for BACK Sleeping, I switched from the basic neck pillow, which i loved, but now I can do side and back sleeping and this pillow helps to hold your head from rocking back and forth when on your back, due to the higher sides, that are also what provide the increase in height to fit into your neck when you roll to your side. So I hope if you read franciscos message you don't put yourself in his shoes. B/c If I would have I'd be so upset. Again Nothing Against him. just stating my truth."

"Like many here, I tried the pillow at the store and loved it. At home it turn out to be the most uncomfortable pillow I have ever used in my life. It is a side pillow...I get that, but it is only beneficial if you sleep exclusively on your side, i.e. 100 percent of the times. If I am sleeping side ways then it's ok. But I tend to sleep in various positions through the night (belly and on back) and it is absolutely worthless. I wake up with neck pains, which I have never had before. In addition, these things are a mile long (26 inches to be exact). Why? If you want to cuddle up with your partner or sleep close you can't because this sack of cement is keeping you apart. You are supposed to sleep on the indentation made for you neck and if you do then you got about 7-8 inches to either side of your head. So, save yourself 129 dollars and get something else. "

"The neck pillow has worked great for me for years, but I recently developed a shoulder issue and decided to try the side pillow. One night using this pillow and my pain has greatly reduced. Another great product from Tempur-Pedic. I just wish that this pillow was available in stores as well as online. "

"I bought this pillow thinking that since it is a SIDE Pillow, that it would be great for me since I primarily sleep on my side. Was I ever sooo wrong. As a few of the other reviewers stated, the Side Pillow is not thick enough. My head is actually lower than my spine, causing me to wake up several times throughout the night with neck pain! I have had to resort to using this pillow on top of another standard pillow to get enough height. This helps, but isn't perfect. Very disappointed in this pillow. For as much as i spent on this pillow, I expected a lot more."

"I purchased a TEMPUR-Contour Signature bed and tried this pillow in the store. I absolutely loved it! I sleep on my side mostly, and this pillow was designed especially for side sleepers. I was excited to get it home and give it a try. I've used it for only a few nights intermittently. Every time I sleep on it, I end up with the worst neck pain and associated headaches that last throughout the day after. As far as I can tell, the pillow is not thick enough, so when my head sinks in a ways, my neck actually droops down rather than staying in alignment with the rest of my spine. My other half got the NeckPillow in Large, and it feels much better to me sleeping on my side. Oddly, the NeckPillow has various sizes to deal with difference in neck to shoulder distance. The SidePillow does not. That doesn't make any sense. Unfortunately, I cannot return the SidePillow. The next plan is to purchase a SymphonyPillow and see if that works out better. If not, then I'll probably get a second NeckPillow and stop throwing money away."

"I was very excited to get this pillow, unfortunately, from the very first night, I work up with a stiff neck. I tried night after night thinking I just needed to get use to it, but the stiff neck continued. What's sad is that you spend $130.00 for a pillow that you hope to get the best night sleep possible, and then you don't and then you can't return it. I would definitely not recommend this pillow."

"I am in my 3rd year of using this pillow. Before, I tried numerous pillows to give me comfort and support as a side-sleeper. I would always wake up with neck pain, soreness and frequent headaches. Since I have used this pillow, there has not been one instance of any pain or soreness. This I noticed the first night I used the pillow. I also noticed there was a significant drop in my number of headaches. I found that if I travelled and slept on another pillow, the problems would be there in the morning. It has been since then a top priority that when I pack, I also pack the pillow.I will be purchasing a travel pillow as it is almost impossible to pack a pillow in a suitcase. Notice I said almost! "

"This pillow is fabulous. If you're not used to a tempur-pedic pillow it may take a few nights to adjust. I had the neck pillow perviously and found this one superior because I don't think I had the right thickness on the neck pillow. This one cadles your head at a perfect angle. Even if you sleep on your back, it's fine for that too. "

"Was encouraged to go and find Tempur-Pedic pillow. I purchased a side pillow after testing several different ones at AZ store after I was in several whip lash accidents. My neck hurt really bad and not only that I also have Fibromyalgia Syndrome. It was difficult to find a pillow that would be very comfortable for my neck. I thought the price was way too high but I bought it anyway. I have had it for ten years now so it is like $10 per year for the pillow which is really cheap in the long run. Seems that it is time for me to buy another one and I am going to look for it; Tempur-Pedic side pillow. When I am on vacation or staying overnight at someone's house, they used different pillow and I always wake up with pain in the neck and also headache. So I was always glad to be back to my own bed because of my precious side pillow. :o)Thank goodness for that. . . just imagine how much I would be suffering all those years without the side pillow. "I purchased this pillow with high hopes and was not let down. When I first received the pillow I hadn't received my Tempurpedic bed yet. I tried the pillow on my old soft pillow top and it was horrible. However, when I received my new bed a week later, it was awesome! I believe this pillow must be used with a Tempupedic bed, or a firm mattress of some sort. I absolutely love this pillow and I believe some of the bad reviews are caused from the mattress, not the pillow. Definitely the best pillow I've ever had. "

"Tried this pillow in the store and couldn't wait to get it home. Was I ever let down. Pillow is too soft and did not offer enough support or comfort. I think I'm sleeping worse after using this pillow. It hurts to spend this much money on a pillow and only get disappointment in return."

"I am very sad to say that I paid $100 for a pillow that I absolutely cannot use, and am unable to return or exchange. I have had 11 back surgeries and thought that having a good quality pillow would help alleviate some of the pain that I experience daily... boy, was I wrong! I got such a head and neck ache from this pillow that I was literally unable to sleep. I went back to my regular pillow for a few days and got myself back to being able to sleep, but thought I should try the side pillow out again... same problem PAIN! I wind up throwing the thing on the floor and sleeping just on the tempur-pedic mattress. Very disappointed that I now have a $100 pillow just sitting here collecting dust.:("
