Tempur-Pedic pillow quality is gone

"I purchased my first T pillow 9 to 12 years ago. I was in horrible pain with my neck for 2-3 years before I purchased this pillow to the point of a 14 day course of Prednisone. My doc recommended the neck pillow. At first using the pillow was painful because my neck was so stiff. After a week, the neck muscle relaxed and I was pain free until 1 year ago. Bought another Temp. Pillow and after using it 2 nights I thought the store must have sold me the wrong pillow because there was no support. Returned. Went back to old temp. Pillow but it had bottomed out. (I had purchased at least 3 Temp. Pillows in the 9-12 years with same quality. NOW for the SHOCKER. In last month purchased the same pillow I have always used -Standard Large- from Tempur-Pedic. When it came and I pressed on it, the pillow is HARD and does not feel like the old visco-elastic foam used in prior pillows. Sleeping on this pillow for 4 nights, my stiff neck has returned and I have a splitting headache probably from being so aggravated from being so aggravated. Do this manufacturer think their customers are so stupid they won't notice the difference in quality. It is their pillow and they have a right to change it's composition, but PLEASE have the decency to inform the customer. WARNING: if you order this pillow expecting the same quality as before, the quality is gone. So BUYER. BEWARE "

Quality is not like it used to be.

"I was a happy owner of an original tempurpedic neck pillow, small size, for 9 years. I loved my pillow, but It was worn and a bit flattened out. I figured it was time for a replacement and ordered a new, small neck pillow, assuming I'd get the same quality product I expected from tempurpedic. When I received the pillow, I saw that the small size I had selected on the website was actually a standard size, marked "low profile". The pillow is much taller than my original. The foam is much firmer, to the point that I had to remove my tiny stud earrings in order to sleep as they were pinching me due to the lack of give in the pillow. My original pillow was firm and dense but had a nice give to it. And lastly, the nice, soft micro-terry cloth cover has been replaced by a super-synthetic, slippery, cheap fabric that feels awful to the touch. It even feels slippery when covered with a pillow case. The pillow had a mildewy smell that held on for a month. I was surprised to see that the pillows are non-returnable. Had I purchased it from Brookstone, they would have accepted the return. What a disappointment. I did attempt to use the pillow for two months (since I couldn't return it) but felt as if I was punishing myself. I used to notice all the off-brand memory foam pillows and think they couldn't be as good as the real deal, tempurpedic. Now tempurpedic can't compete with its own original product. Too bad. I want my old pillow back... Well, you get the idea. "

almost perfect, but not quite...

"Years ago I walked into a Brookstone store and discovered the Tempur-Neck pillow, and bought a Queen size, extra firm. This version was more dense than the regular pillows (I know because I've bought a handful over the years since and they are all softer and compress more). This size was great on the sides and when I slept on my side, it really supported my head so that my spine was straight and my head did not dip. The problem was the center part which was too high and dense for lying on my back. So, being a DIY kind of guy, I took all the covers off the pillow and scooped out a section leaving a ridge where my neck would lie. Voila! I had the perfect fit for my head and support for my neck and when I rolled to either side my head went 'up' onto the normal section and was supported. I put the covers back on, and have used it ever since. Of course it is drying out now due to age but new ones do not replace it. My issue with the new pillows is that every version I have bought and tried tried since my first is much softer than the very firm version I have, and my head compresses to much on the side and my neck gets sore so I just give them away to friends or family. I really wish this company had not changed the firmness of this line."

Neck Injury Relief

"I suffered a neck injury (my second) due to a car accident in the Fall of 2007 where upon I bought this pillow. It took a few days to get used to it and to wear it in properly, but once it was worn in it was so comfortable and I have not been able to sleep comfortably without it since. I take it with me when ever I travel. It has lasted me 5 years, which is 2 more than it is guaranteed to last. Although it continues to offer me much more support than the average pillow, I am going to purchase a new one within the next couple of weeks and I can hardly wait to get back to the ultimate comfort that the pillow once offered me. Some day I will purchase a Tempur-pedic bed. I highly recommend this pillow."

"I was so excited about purchasing a tempurpedic pillow. I had a knock off for 5 years that I loved and decided to make the investment for a real tempurpedic. What a mistake. This is by far the hardest pillow I have ever slept on. The price was very expensive and to make matters worse, the tempurpedic company will not give you your money back nor will they exchange for another type of pillow. Once you buy it, you are stuck. The pillow I tried in the store I bought it from was so much softer so be careful when buying pillows in a store and then getting one that no one has ever used. In addition, this pillow has given me a neck ache that I never had with any other pillow. I have never written a review before but I thought because this has to do with neck and back issues, the public deserves to know."

This one really works!

"I actually broke my neck in an accident. That was in 1978, I had several cervical fractures and have been in physical therapy on and off for the last 34 years. During that time I have purchased at least 20 to 30 cervical pillows and with the exception of the first one, never found one that I could sleep on, let alone give me any relief of pain. I not only sleep on this pillow, I wake up without the pain I always wake up with. This pillow was purchased on a whim at Bed, Bath and Beyond with a Rx from of UofM hospital. I liked the way it felt when I smashed it in my hands and thought "how bad could this be"? I can't tell you what a delight this pillow has been. I can only say if you have any cervical problems, (I have a badly herniated C6-7 and I am back in the Spine Program at the U) this pillow is worth the money I didn't pay for it, the insurance company paid for it, but if I had to pay for it three times, it's worth every penny of the cost. God bless you all and give your neck a vacation and buy one of these pillows. Can't say anything about the other pillows but this neck pillow is a blessing I have been praying for. You can look at the pile of other cervical pillows I bought that are in a big pile on my husbands king size bed. I have to sleep elevated so I have a hospital bed in the adjacent bedroom; can't lay flat. Thank you and good night..."

Hands down the best pillow

"I have 3 of these pillows. A standard for napping in the den. A queen size that I sleep on every night and a travel size for travel. All the pillows are 5 years old, and the one I sleep on every night still provides a lot of support. I am going to get the king medium since my tabby sleeps with me every night and I do not have to move my pillow to make room for him. The is the best pillow and the money spent is worth it. All the knockoffs out there is no where close. I had a car accident about 8 year ago and my neck used to hurt all the time, no more pain."

"This pillow is amazing. I have had it for several years and it's time for a new one. I just want to respond to a few of the people that have given poor ratings. First, if it holds your head low when you're sleeping on your side, then you got the wrong size. If you have the proper size it holds your head perfectly in line with your spine. For those that said it works great for a while, you have to realize that it needs replaced just like any other pillow! The material does break down over time and not support as well. Finally, this pillow is most comfortable when used with the Tempur-Pedic bed. I have the bed and the pillow and get AMAZING sleep. Love Tempur Pedic products- I will never buy anything else!"

"I loved my pillow for awhile, maybe about a year, but then it went flat in the middle. I'm not that big, only 5/1" and 120 lbs. I sleep on my back as I have shoulder issues (arthritis). The doctor recommended this pillow for the arthritis in my neck, but there is no longer any support. I've tried everything to bring back the original curve."

"I got this pillow because a have a slightly bulged disk in my neck. I am a side sleeper for the most part, which is why I don't think this pillow works for me. When lying on my back, I can feel the tension released from my neck and the pillow is great, but when sleeping on my side it is terrible! I wake up constantly, tossing and turning because I have cricks in my neck. It takes 20 minutes in the shower to loosen up! The pillow is so low that it feels like my shoulder is being crushed, but to add another pillow under it to aleviate shoulder pain causes sharp neck spasms. I don't mind spending money on a product that works, but this is definitely a disappointment. For as much money as you pay, you should be allowed to have a 30 day trial to see if it works for you. "

"My husband and I have had our pillows for a couple of years now. We have both been getting lots of sickness. The other day I took a pair of scissors and opened up the sock covering over the pillow, and found discoloration on the pillow. I suspect with the amount sickness we have had over these couple of years we now know that this has contributed to it. I checked our bed, and luckily I didn't see the same thing, but we bought a water proof cover to cover it. Before you buy make sure you buy water proof cover, or you may end up having endoscopic sinus surgery as a result of this pillow. :( Another thing, you get weird wrinkles in your skin when you sleep on the pillow. My cheek had this wrinkle that didn't go away, which I identified that it was the pillow (it goes away in a couple of days). "

"I don't leave reviews, I read them. However I have to leave one for these. I had a car accident 15 years ago. Back then my doctor recommended this for neck support and to help with my whip lash recovery. I thought it was expensive for a pillow but I was misserable and would try anything. Let me tell you it's the best $ you will spend!!! I can't sleep without it. I travel a lot and miss it. They are a bit heavey to carry in your luggage. I usually roll a towel up and just use that under my neck. But I'm finally going to get the travel size so I can use it on the plane and in hotel room. No more waking up with a stiff neck or head ache when I'm away from home!!!! When you think about how much time you will spend resting your head on it, it should be worth it and it is in every way. I use it for back sleeping and side sleeping. I usually use a regular pillow between or under my knees to get the full spine aligned and wake up without pain! I'll never go back to regular pillows again!"

"When purchased, I had illustrated that I was a "side" sleeper, while also purchasing tempur-pedic bed. NO, NOT FOR SIDE SLEEPER. In a very short time the opposite side of my neck from which I sleep felt like a cord had tightened up from my skull to my shoulder. Then my shoulder blade became painful. Just on a hunch that the pain started with new pillow I switched back to my traditional one. One night later my neck & shoulder have lost the awful tension which on a scale of 1-10 was a ten. Pay attention to the "use" of the pillow."

"I have been using the Small Tempurpedic Neck Pillow for about 5 years now and it has ruined me for any other pillows. I don't get a stiff sore neck or shoulders like I do with other pillows. I'm so thankful there are different sizes as people are different sizes, and the Small size fits me perfectly. I have tried other Tempurpedic pillows like the Side Sleeper (too high but did like it), The Cloud (too high) and the Curve (no neck support). "

"I have owned the large neck pillow for about 7-8 years! TEMPUR holds up like no other memory foam pillow. I will say, when I first got this pillow it took a VERY long time to get used to, like 2 months! Then, I couldn't sleep without it. I wound up buying a 2nd one for a vacation home in FL I had so I could have the same comfort in both places. I do use the pillow a bit oddly, using the small curve 90% of the time under my neck, instead of the large. I also find, over the years, I need to put a thick folded towel under it to give it more height. Another unusual thing is if I'm feeling restless, i'll lay on my side and tilt the pillow towards my face, and it's a whole new comfort. I find this pillow to be very unique, versatile, and long lasting. It can be/feel 'hard', especially if the room is cold, but this is true of any TEMPUR product. Again, give it AMPLE time to get used to it."

"I'm a little torn with this pillow. Sometimes I sleep on it and I feel like my head is being cradled by the hands of God! Other times, it's just truly uncomfortable. I've found it's best when my muscles are sore. Then it's really, really firm and offers such great support. But even so, I can only lay on it for about 45 minutes before it becomes painful. It's very therapeutic during the first 45 minutes. Then when my muscles are back to normal, it just feels so hard and it feels like it's pushing back on me with such force. Also the neck part is really high, I often sleep with it turned around on the lower end. I'm mainly a back and side sleeper and have tried other neck pillows that were just so soft and offered no support whatsoever. This pillow feels too hard at times. I'd highly recommend it for therapeutic reasons, like if your neck and shoulder muscles are sore, but I wouldn't recommend it for a whole night's sleep. Also, a few times when I've fallen asleep on it, I've woken up with my ear(s) hurting because of it pushing back on me. It's like all the nerves in my ear(s) got pinched during the night. Think of this as your mini chiropractor, I have another pillow that I switch too after this one has healed me. It's worth the price, but don't expect it to be your only pillow. "

"I have spent a small fortune on a variety of pillows, over the years. I have TERRIBLE muscle-spasms that feel like I have a "knife stabbing me in the neck!" So when I bought the Tempur-pedic NeckPillow, I was skeptical. After just ONE nite, I was forever SOLD on THIS pillow! Even on days when my neck is stiff & hurts, I can hardly wait to stretch-out & relax on my Tempur-pedic Pillow & Bed because I know I will feel better in the morning!! I have NOT purchased the Travel Size pillow yet, but plan on doing so, as I know I'd NEVER sleep well on ANY other type of pillow. Thanx Tempur-pedic! "
